The word “catastrophe” isn’t used often in the lexicon of professional sports, but that’s exactly what happened to Seattle Seahawks linebacker Brandon Mebane on Sunday.

Mebane was injured during Sunday’s NFC title game and was listed on the injury report with a knee injury, but he wasn’t listed as questionable until late in the fourth quarter of the game.

The Seahawks were leading 24-13 and had a chance to pull away with a field goal in the final seconds, but they couldn’t find the end zone.

Mewhort, who was the backup to Mebanys absence on Sunday, had two sacks and three tackles.

The play was an early sign of how the Seahawks offense was going to take on Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan and the offense that’s coming out of the NFC Championship Game.

Mowins had four tackles, three quarterback hits and an interception in the win over the Falcons.

The pass protection was strong and the defense had some opportunities to put pressure on the Falcons quarterback, but the Seahawks were able to run the ball on the Atlanta defense and win the game, 38-27.
